Car Donation Charities
Take that car you don't need and donate it to a good cause. But which cause? There are a number of good car donation charities that will accept the donation of your motor vehicle. In exchange get you a charitable tax write-off for the value of your vehicle. For those who itemize their taxes, this is a wonderful way to give something valuable to a good cause and get some tax relief in return.
There are many good reasons to car donation charities. First, auto dealers rarely give a fair price to a trade-in. A donation will be given its fair market trade-in value for your tax purposes. Second, car donation charities will come to you or tow your car, if necessary. This is great if your vehicle is broken down, requires repairs, needs an emissions inspection, or would require new tags to be sold.
Car donation charities take care of such details. You don't even need to wash it! Just make sure to get your personal papers and effects out of the glovebox and trunk before you give it away.
The American Diabetes Association welcomes your donation of a car, truck, boat or recreational vehicle. Monies raised go to the ADA's mission: prevent diabetes and help those stricken with the disease.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) also accepts donations of cars, trucks, boats and RVs. They use all proceeds to help them in their efforts to educate the public about drunk driving. Your donated car can be towed, if necessary. They will arrange pick-up.
Many other organizations say that they are car donation charities. To find out if the organization is legitimate, you can research it on a government IRS website. Remember that the IRS will allow only fair market value on your vehicle. The IRS will not accept Blue Book value. Make sure you retain all documentation for tax purposes.
